More than munchies: Uber Eats delivers cannabis in Canada

Residents over the age of 19 will be able to place orders from three dispensaries.

Uber Eats, the food delivery service, announced that it will start delivering marijuana to people in the Toronto area.

The company, part of the ride-hailing company Uber, said Sunday that it partnered with Leafy, an online cannabis retailer, to deliver from three local marijuana dispensaries, The Hill reported.

Residents over the age of 19 will be able to place orders from Hidden Leaf Cannabis, Minerva Cannabis and Shivaa’s Rose, three licensed marijuana retailers in Toronto, through the Uber Eats app.

Uber Eats Canada General Manager Lola Kassim said the move will "help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving."

Toronto is the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario, which had more than 1,400 cannabis retailers as of March, according to Canadian outlet CBC.
