Hamas claims responsibility for rocket attacks in Jerusalem in response to Israeli 'aggression'

The Palestinian terror organization Hamas claimed responsibility Monday for a series of rockets fired at Israel in retaliation for what it called "aggression" from Israel, following a clash between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police.

Abu Obeida, a spokesperson for Hamas’ military wing, implied the attack was in response to what he called Israeli "crimes and aggression" in Jerusalem.

"This is a message the enemy has to understand well," Obeida said while threatening more attacks should Israel intervene again at Al-Aqsa mosque, according to USA Today.

Israeli officials reported over 30 rockets were fired from the Gaza strip, an area of Palestine controlled by the Islamist group Hamas. No fatalities have been reported; however, there are reports rockets landed in a house in Jerusalem, according to Reuters.

The attack comes after Israeli police launched rubber bullets and tear gas canisters into Al-Aqsa mosque Monday, attempting to subdue Palestinian protesters who were slinging rocks at police and praying Israelis at the nearby Western Wall.

Over 300 Palestinians and almost two dozen Israeli officers were injured in the clash at Al-Aqsa mosque.
