JERUSALEM – Several people were injured Monday when a vehicle crashed into a crowd on one of the busiest streets in Israel, officials said.

At least five people were injured in the incident, and the suspect was shot dead on the scene by an armed civilian, officials said.

Israeli Police, eyewitnesses and other news outlets are saying the incident appears to be a possible terror attack.

The incident occurred hours before Israel is set to observe its Memorial Day to remember its fallen soldiers and those who died in terror attacks.

Moshe Shamir, an eyewitness who works in the market next to where the incident occurred, told Just the News, "It's very, very tough seeing things like this."

"This is the reality," he also said. "Every moment, you cannot know what will happen. You can go shopping, and then you can die. Unbelievable."

The suspected attacker has been identified as a 39-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who was married with five children and had mental health issues, according to local media reports.
