DA Bragg, top prosecutor to testify before House Judiciary in July: Report

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo will testify before the House Judiciary Committee on July 12, Punchbowl News reported, citing a "source familiar."

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan in late May asked Bragg and Colangelo to testify before the panel after former President Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a case Bragg's office brought.

Jordan initially requested a June 13 testimony date. Bragg's office last week indicated he was open to testifying, but that he would need to do so at a later date than the one Jordan proposed.

"This Office is committed to voluntary cooperation," Bragg general counsel Leslie Dubeck said. "That cooperation includes making the District Attorney available to provide testimony on behalf of the Office at an agreed-upon date, and evaluating the propriety of allowing an Assistant District Attorney to testify publicly about an active prosecution to which he is assigned."

Bragg's case marked the first criminal trial and conviction of a former president in American history. He had brought the case in connection with a 2016 payment his then-attorney, Michael Cohen, made to Stormy Daniels. Trump has vowed to appeal the conviction.
