Johnson goes to Manhattan courthouse to support Trump, latest among Hill backers to make trip
Johnson is the latest among several Republican Capitol Hill lawmakers who have gone to the Manhattan courthouse to support Trump
House Speaker Mike Johnson is reportedly going to the New York City courtroom Tuesday where former President Trump is on trial.
Johnson is the latest among several Republican Capitol Hill lawmakers who have gone to the Manhattan courthouse to support Trump in the criminal hush money trial in which he is a defendant.
The Louisiana lawmaker is scheduled to address the media "outside of the ongoing sham prosecution" of Trump, according to an announcement from his office obtained by Just the News.
Johnson is expected to speak about "the political persecution of the 45th President of the United States by President Biden’s weaponized Department of Justice and the left-wing Manhattan district attorney," the announcement said.
Trump recently came to Johnson's support when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tried to oust him from his speakership post.
On Monday, GOP Sens. J.D. Vance, Ohio, and Tommy Tuberville, Alabama, went to the courthouse. Vance is considered a potential vice presidential pick for Trump. Vivek Ramaswamy, also a possible choice as Trump's running mate, is expected to make an appearance at the courthouse on Tuesday.
