Johnson moves to bury the hatchet with MTG after failed ouster: 'I don't hold grudges'

Following Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's failed effort to remove Mike Johnson from leadership of the lower chamber of Congress, the speaker of the House appears eager to move on and repair his relationship with the conservative firebrand.

The House on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly to table Greene's motion to vacate in a 359-43 vote, with only 11 Republicans backing the effort. Greene had brought the challenge in March citing Johnson's support for a $1.2 trillion "minibus" spending package.

"I don’t hold grudges. I’ve got to work with everybody. I told her last night before she left the floor, 'let’s move on, Marjorie,'" Johnson said of the matter on Thursday during an appearance on Fox News. He remained somewhat vague on her response to his overture.

The feud between the two saw them trade public jabs, with Greene accusing Johnson of a "total surrender" to the Democrats, while Johnson in turn said Greene was not "proving to be" a serious legislator.

"We have serious work do y’all. There are two competing visions for the country," Johnson said, according to The Hill. "We are fighting to save America and preserve its founding principles to get Donald Trump back at the House White House and to win the majority in the Senate and the House for the Republican Party, so that we can fix all of these extreme challenges. We have no time for nonsense. We have to get the job done."

Trump, for his part, had offered support for Johnson maintaining his post, on Thursday saying that "I absolutely love Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s got Spirit, she’s got Fight, and I believe she’ll be around, and on our side, for a long time to come. However, right now, Republicans have to be fighting the Radical Left Democrats, and all the Damage they have done to our Country."

"With a Majority of One, shortly growing to three or four, we’re not in a position of voting on a Motion to Vacate. At some point, we may very well be, but this is not the time," he posted on Truth Social. "We are leading in the Presidential Polls by a lot, both Nationally and in the Swing States. Likewise, we are doing well in the Senate, and I believe will do well in the House."

"But if we show DISUNITY, which will be portrayed as CHAOS, it will negatively affect everything! Mike Johnson is a good man who is trying very hard," he continued. "I also wish certain things were done over the last period of two months, but we will get them done, together. It is my request that Republicans vote for 'THE MOTION TO TABLE.' We WILL WIN BIG - AND IT WILL BE SOON!"
