Comer, Jordan accuse Biden of financial gains from son, brother
House Republican leaders on Thursday morning accused President Biden of benefiting financially from the business dealings of his son and brother.
Kentucky Rep. James Comer and Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan — the next chairmen of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees, respectively — held a press conference detailing their plans to investigate the Biden family's business dealings and alleged criminal activity when Republicans officially take control of the House in January when a new Congress is sworn in.
With a Republican-led House, Congress will explore "all avenues" to investigate the Bidens, according to Comer, who claimed the investigations will explore a range of potential federal crimes for which they've obtained evidence, such as conspiracy to defraud the United States, wire fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering, among others.
The president's son, Hunter Biden, coordinated business dealings abroad that "increasingly ... brought in Joe Biden as a direct equity holder," according to Comer, who cited as one example a deal involving the sale of U.S. natural gas to China.
"Evidence suggests Joe Biden had a 10% equity stake through his son," said Comer. "Hunter brought in millions of dollars from this deal from entities tied to the Chinese government."
Comer added that the president's brother, Jim Biden, was also involved in the deal — as well as other business ventures.
"Domestically, Jim Biden ... used the Biden name to enrich himself in return for the promise that when Joe Biden became president in 2020, business partners would get rich by having access to a future Biden administration ... By bringing his brother, Joe Biden, onto phone calls, Jim Biden was able to convince companies to give him loans of hundreds of thousands of dollars that he never repaid."
Comer said House Republicans have heard form whistleblowers about "numerous schemes" centered around the Biden family's global business plans based on "influence peddling," some of which allegedly involved personnel linked to foreign governments beyond China such as Russia and Middle Eastern countries.
"We also found plans based in the United States where the Biden family swindled investors of hundreds of thousands of dollars — all with Joe Biden's participation and knowledge," said Comer, who asserted Biden was involved in many of these business dealings.
"To be clear, Joe Biden is the big guy," said Comer, who questioned whether the president presents a national security risk. He indicated the president — rather than his son — is the real focus of the coming investigations.
"In the 118th Congress, this committee will evaluate the status of Joe Biden's relationship with his family's foreign partners and whether he is a president who is compromised or swayed by foreign dollars and influence," added Comer. "I want to be clear: This is an investigation of Joe Biden, and that's where the committee will focus in this next Congress."
Comer also said he had evidence that Hunter Biden conducted business with suspected human traffickers, adding House Republicans have called on the Treasury Department to release additional financial documents to no avail.
Following Comer, Jordan lambasted the FBI and Big Tech firms for what he said was the "suppressing" the Hunter Biden laptop story in 2020.
Jordan said the Judiciary Committee would support Comer's efforts by specifically focusing on the role of the FBI and the Justice Department.
