Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson said Wednesday that she would recuse herself from the Harvard University affirmative action case if she is confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.

Prior to her confirmation hearings, Jackson's ties to Harvard caused some to call for her to recuse herself from cases involving the institution. Jackson earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the school.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz asked Jackson if she would recuse herself from the affirmative action admissions case involving Harvard if confirmed.

"That is my plan," she replied.
