Gaetz will not be charged in Justice Department sex-trafficking probe, his office says

Rep. Matt Gaetz will not be charged with any crimes related to the Justice Department's years-long sex-trafficking probe, the Florida Republican's office said Wednesday.

"The Department of Justice has confirmed to Congressman Gaetz’s attorneys that their investigation has concluded and that he will not be charged with any crimes," the congressman's office told Just the News.

The federal agency told the lawyers of one witness that it will not bring charges against the congressman, a person familiar with the matter told CNN.

The decision comes after prosecutors in September recommended not charging Gaetz last year over concerns about witness credibility.

Gaetz has denied the allegations that he was involved in sex trafficking and said he regrets being associated with Joel Greenberg, a former Florida tax official who plead guilty to sex trafficking, among other counts. Greenberg's case initiated the probe into the congressman.
