Biden, Harris condemn surge in antisemitic incidents

Statement comes amid attacks on Jewish Americans that started around May 10, following dispute between Israeli police, Palestinians.

Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris issued statements Monday condemning the recent spike in antisemitic incidents and attacks this month in the United States.

"The recent attacks on the Jewish community are despicable, and they must stop. I condemn this hateful behavior at home and abroad – it’s up to all of us to give hate no safe harbor," Biden tweeted Monday.

His statement comes amid attacks on Jewish Americans in cities across the U.S. that started around May 10 when a dispute between Israeli police and Palestinians sparked a deadly, 11-day air strike and rocket battle between Israel and the militant group Hamas that controls the Gaza Strip and is supportive of the Palestinians. 

Also in a tweet, Harris called the rise in attacks "despicable" and said they must be "called out, condemned, and stopped. As a country, we must stand united against hate of any kind."
