Super Bowl ticket prices soar with demand 'astronomically' high

The average ticket price for Sunday's game now $6,500

The minimum ticket price for the Super Bowl game on Sunday in Los Angles is now at about $4,000, an astronomical price being attributed to several factors including an apparent peak in the recent surge in COVID-19.

The minimum ticket price and the average price, roughly $6,500, is being reported by Reuters.

A number of factors are driving up the price of ticket to see the Los Angles Rams play the Cincinnati Bengals to become the 2021-22 NFL champions.

The game will be played at the Rams' home stadium and will be the first there in two years not to feature an attendance restriction. However California will lift its remaining mask mandate until Tuesday, two days after the game.

"A lot of factors are making this particular game incredibly unique," Akshay Khanna, general manager of North America for ticket retailer StubHub, told Reuters. "That is just a reflection of supply and demand. There are only so many seats that are available for the Super Bowl. And the demand for a game like this is so astronomically high."

Californians are driving ticket sales to the game, with in-state residents comprising more than half of new ticket sales recorded this week.

Despite Californians putting up the numbers, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford says he's nervous about genuine fans of his team being underrepresented in the stadium crowd.

"I've seen some of those prices online, and they're up there," he said during a recent new conference. "I understand it is a lot of corporate people buying those and being able to come to the game, but hopefully we have a lot of L.A. Rams fans cheering for us. I hope our fans are out there going crazy, but the Super Bowl is its own beast in terms of ticket sales."
