Laurel Hubbard, the New Zealand transgender weightlifter, exited Olympic competition after failing to complete a successful lift during the women's +87kg category on Monday in Tokyo.

Hubbard, 43, first tried to lift 120kg in the competition, but failed, The Daily Wire reported. In a second attempt, Hubbard shakily lifted 125kg.

A female commentator noted that it was surprising the shaky lift wasn't challenged on appeal.

For the final attempt, Hubbard couldn't lift 125kg, thus ending the competition for the weightlifter.

Hubbard is the first openly transgender athlete to compete at an Olympics.
