Donald Trump suggests Biden will be 'jacked up' on drugs for presidential debates
Former President Donald Trump on Friday jokingly predicted that President Joe Biden will be "jacked up" on drugs for the presidential debates later this year, which comes a day after a House Republican claimed the president was given drugs before the State of the Union.
Trump called for pre-debate drug tests last month on Hugh Hewitt's radio show, suggesting without evidence that Biden must have been high on cocaine for the State of the Union in order to give such a strong performance. The president gave a two-hour speech to Congress in March that contained far fewer stumbles and more energy than critics expected.
Trump repeated this claim and prediction that Biden would be high for the debates while at a fundraiser in the swing state of Minnesota.
"He's going to be so jacked up for those, you watch," Trump joked at the Minnesota GOP’s annual Lincoln Reagan fundraising dinner, per Fox News.
Trump's presidential campaign maintains that Minnesota could still go to Trump, despite the fact that no Republican has won the state in more than 50 years. Trump has vowed to break this streak, and nearly defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Minnesota in 2016. But Biden won the state in 2020 by seven percentage points.
The comments come a day after North Carolina Rep. Greg Murphy said Biden had to have had help for the State of the Union, however Murphy did not claim that the drug was cocaine, or any other illegal drug, and defended his assessment as being from a "medical viewpoint."
“I was in the State of the Union address and Joe Biden must have been jacked up on something that day. I absolutely believe that from a medical viewpoint and actually have a little bit of good knowledge that happened,” Murphy told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. “He can’t stand, and he can’t stand under the lights for that long, and I don’t think he can keep a concept in his brain that long.”
Trump's cocaine allegation comes after the white powdered substance was found in the White House last July, but Biden was not at the White House at the time the drug was discovered. It was also found in an area that is highly trafficked and near the area visitors are asked to leave their cellphones as part of the West Wing tour.
