Former GOP Rep. Collins, Trump ally, says won't run for Senate or Georgia governor in 2022

"This is goodbye for now, but probably not forever," Collins said.

Former GOP Rep. Doug Collins says he won't run Senate or the governor next year in home state Georgia.

Collins made the announcement Monday on Twitter.

Collins unsuccessfully challenged then-Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a 2020 GOP primary.

Collins, a former member of the House Judiciary Committee, was a strong President Trump supporter, especially Trump's first impeachment trial.

The former GOP representative's decision comes after Trump signaled his support for former football great Herschel Walker earlier in the month to take on Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.

"For those who may wonder, this is goodbye for now, but probably not forever," Collin said, according to CNN
