Republican Sens. John Barrasso and Bill Cassidy have introduced that a bill to reverse President Joe Biden’s block on export permits for liquified natural gas (LNG).

The Wyoming and Louisiana lawmakers, respectively, on Thursday introduced the measure, titled LNG Security Act.

“President Biden’s decision to stop approving LNG exports is a disaster," Barrasso said. "We already know LNG exports are good for American workers, our economy, our national security, and the planet."

The bill requires the Energy Department to approve all LNG exports to countries that are capable of important natural gas from Russia or Iran. It also imposes a 45-day deadline for applications to export LNG to all other countries.

“The Department of Energy needs to do its job and finalize permits for projects harmed by the LNG export freeze – the majority of which are in Louisiana,” Cassidy said.

The measure faces an uphill challenge for passage in the Democrat-led Senate.

The GOP-led House passed a bill in February that would move the approval of export permits to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
