House passes bill that would strip Biden of authority to enact LNG pause

The House passed a bill that prevents President Joe Biden from implementing a pause on liquified natural gas export permits.

The bill, which was sponsored by August Pfluger, R-Texas, passed in a 224 to 200 vote, with nine Democrats joining Republicans in favor of the bill.

The bill places the power to approve exports solely with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which approves the terminal projects. Currently, the Department of Energy approves export permits.

The legislation will need to pass the Senate and be signed by Biden before it becomes law.
