FDA, CDC investigating potential link between hepatitis A cases and organic strawberries

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a potential link between hepatitis A cases and organic strawberries in Minnesota, California and Canada.

The Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are also part of the investigation. 

The organic strawberries brands possibly connected to the hepatitis outbreak are FreshKampo and HEB bought between March 5 and April 25 at Aldi, HEB, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joe's, Walmart, WinCo Foods and Weis Markets.

So far, the store locations that are selling the strawberries under investigation are located in Minnesota, California and Canada.

Individuals who purchased the potentially contaminated organic strawberries that fit the criteria outlined by FDA and CDC are encouraged to throw them out.

At this time, 17 people have reported illnesses and 12 have been hospitalized, according to the federal agencies involved in the investigation.
