One passenger died, others injured on Singapore Airlines flight after severe turbulence

A passenger died and others were injured on a Singapore Airlines plane that hit severe turbulence on Tuesday.

The Boeing 777-300ER plane was heading from London to Singapore when it was diverted to Bangkok, the airline wrote in a social media post.

The plane ultimately landed in Bangkok at 3:45 p.m. local time, according to the airline.

There were 211 passengers and 18 crew on board. 

"We can confirm that there are multiple injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft," the airline wrote on social media.

"As of 1950hrs Singapore time on 21 May 2024, 18 individuals have been hospitalised. Another 12 are being treated in hospitals. The remaining passengers and crew are being examined and given treatment, where necessary, at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok," according to the airline's post.
