Lemon to return to CNN desk after 'formal training,' following offensive remarks about Haley
CNN anchor Don Lemon will return to work Wednesday after he receives "formal training," following his comments last week about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
Lemon, who co-hosts the cable news network's "CNN This Morning" show has not been on the air since Thursday, when during a discussion about the ages of politicians said the 51-year-old Haley was not "in her prime."
The 56-year-old Lemon said a woman was considered in her prime "in her 20s, 30s and maybe her 40s."
"I sat down with Don and had a frank and meaningful conversation," CNN CEO Chris Licht wrote in a memo made public late Monday night and obtained by the Associated Press. "He has agreed to participate in formal training, as well as continuing to listen and learn. We take this situation very seriously,"
Lemon has since apologized. And Licht chastised Lemon during on an editorial call Friday, saying his remarks were "upsetting, unacceptable and unfair" and a "huge distraction," the wire service also reports.
