Police investigate incident involving Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband
Colorado police are investigating an incident involving Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert. The Colorado Republican congresswoman said she is consulting with an attorney to evaluate her options.
Law enforcement responded to a call Saturday evening involving the divorced couple in a restaurant in Silt, Colo., and the town's police chief, Mike Kite, told The Denver Gazette that the Boeberts were involved and he plans on reviewing surveillance tape. "We are treating this case no differently than we would anyone else," he said.
"This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving," Lauren Boebert said in a text message sent through a spokesperson. The two-term Colorado congresswoman is switching districts for the upcoming 2024 race as she seeks the seat currently held by outgoing Republican Rep. Ken Buck.
She also denied any wrongdoing amid reports that she punched her ex-husband twice.
"I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options," Lauren Boebert said.
Jayson Boebert told The Denver Post that he told the Silt Police Department on Sunday that he does not want to press charges against his ex-wife.
"I don’t want nothing to happen," he said. "Her and I were working through a difficult conversation."
