House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her future plans to colleagues on the House floor on Thursday afternoon after the Republicans won back the majority.

Pelosi, the current House speaker, became the first female speaker in 2007. Potential successors for Pelosi include New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and California Rep. Adam Schiff.
