Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Tuesday concurred with now-former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent in his assessment that the U.S. entered the Iran war due to the influence of the Israeli lobby in the United States.

"Joseph Kent, a top counterterrorism official under Trump, just resigned.

Kent and I don't agree on much, but he is right:
'Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,'" Sanders posted on X.

Kent published his resignation letter on Tuesday, urging President Donald Trump to reverse course and leave Iran. His departure drew a flurry of criticisms, including from the White House.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt, for instance, issued a scathing attack on Kent's assertion that Iran was not a threat, pointing to public statements from the president about evidence of a planned preemptive strike.
