The burned body of Luigi “Luca” Esposito, a 53-year-old sports journalist, was found on Sunday, and investigators are initiating a homicide investigation. 

Firefighters discovered his body while extinguishing a brush fire near Eboli, located in the province of Salerno, Italy. Shell casings were found at the scene, according to local reports, the Daily Wire reported. 

The Committee to Protect Journalists called for Esposito's death to be thoroughly investigated, with attention given to any ties to his journalism. 

“Italian authorities must act quickly and transparently to establish the full circumstances and determine whether this terrible event is linked to Luca Esposito’s journalism," the CPJ said.
