President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday on the stage during a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, which seeks to cut diesel costs by temporarily allowing off-road “dyed” diesel for highway use.

The executive order gives people access to tax-free red-dye diesel by deferring the federal diesel tax through the end of the year.

"Today I'm announcing another unprecedented step to bring down costs," Trump said during the rally. "For many years, farm vehicles, construction equipment and other off-road vehicles have used what is known as red-dye diesel ... Tonight I'm going to sign an historic executive order to officially waive the off-road requirement and allow anyone to purchase tax-free red-dye diesel for any reason."

The president then signed the order in front of thousands of attendees.

The move comes during a rally for Nebraska GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts, who is facing reelection in next month's midterms.
