The Biden campaign on Monday announced that Vice President Kamala Harris was prepared to debate Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance after former President Donald Trump named him as his running mate.

"I can tell you right now that the vice president is fully prepared to take him on," Biden campaign spokesperson TJ Ducklo said, according to The Hill. Harris previously accepted an invitation to debate Trump's eventual running mate from CBS News.

Harris debated then-Vice President Mike Pence in 2020.

Trump picked the "Hillbilly Elegy" author on Monday after a protracted selection process that boiled down to him, Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said that "the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio."
