Lindsey Graham bets on a Trump victory in 2024
Former Sen. Al Franken thought Biden would win the contest, which prompted Graham to place the bet on-air.
South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is optimistic that former President Donald Trump will reclaim the Oval Office in a 2024 rematch with President Joe Biden.
During an appearance on "The Daily Show" on Monday night, the South Carolina lawmaker put money behind his sentiment, wagering $20 with former Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., that Trump would triumph. Franken was hosting the program temporarily as the network looks to replace former host Trevor Noah, Politico reported.
Graham indicated that Biden may face difficulty on campaign when contrasting his performance in high office with Trump's.
“I look at the policies of Trump, and I like the policies of Trump. And at the end of the day, he’s got to prove to people, not me, that he’s able to lead us again, and that will be a challenge for him," Graham said. "And that’ll be a challenge for Biden, to say, give me four more years after the last four."
Franken thought Biden would win the contest, which prompted Graham to place the bet on-air.
The Republican lawmaker further contended that the prospective indictment of Trump by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg would likely bolster his campaign and play into the narrative that Democrats are pursuing a political witch hunt.
Trump has soared past his Republican rivals in the race for the GOP nomination amid talk of his arrest. He had already been gaining ground over Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, his nearest potential challenger.
Trump has not been taken into custody as of press time.
