Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., this week told CNN's Kaitlan Collins that he had kept his impeachment articles against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth from party leaders until he read it aloud on the House floor.

Massie introduced the resolution on Tuesday, asserting that Hegseth had illegally prosecuted the Iran war past the 60-day maximum for conflict without congressional authorization. Lawmakers tabled the motion on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Collins, Massie said he had kept the resolution a secret to avoid being obstructed by party leadership.

“I was afraid that they would do something to subvert me getting on the floor for an hour and 20 minutes and reading these articles," he said, according to The Hill.

The Kentucky Republican has long been a critic of foreign interventions. He recently lost his primary to a Trump-backed challenger and is set to leave Congress in January.

He is not alone in his criticisms of the conflict, however. The House voted on Tuesday evening to end the war for the third time since it began, but that resolution is not expected to clear the Senate or survive a presidential veto.
