Gov. Kevin Stitt, R-Okla., on Tuesday officially named Williams Companies Executive Chairman Alan Armstrong to serve the remainder of Markwayne Mullin's term.

“Alan’s story, as you guys get to know him, reflects the very best of Oklahoma,” Stitt said, according to Politico. “Our values, our work ethic, and our pursuit of the American dream that is alive and well in the state of Oklahoma.”

The Senate confirmed Mullin as Department of Homeland Security secretary on Monday evening. His confirmation created the vacancy and Armstrong will serve through the November election. He will, however, be unable to run in that race.
