President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed that King Charles III and his wife would visit the United States at the end of April.

"Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th," he posted on Truth Social.

"This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!" he added.

The king is also expected to address Congress, marking the first time a British sovereign has done so since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, did so in 1991.

The visit comes as Trump ramps up his criticisms of NATO allies, including the United Kingdom, over their refusal to assist in the ongoing Iran war.
