President Donald Trump on Monday posted a message of support for North Carolina GOP Senate candidate Michael Whatley, who is facing a tough election against former Gov. Roy Cooper, R-N.C.

The pair are vying to replace Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., and the race is regarded as one of the most competitive of the election cycle.

"Michael Whatley is so Great! Running against a really bad former Governor who set murderers free to kill again, and was grossly incompetent on the big hurricane cleanup," he posted on Truth Social. "I had to get it done when I took office on January 20th, and I did! I hope the Great people of North Carolina remember how BAD Roy Cooper was as Governor, especially on crime. Michael Whatley will be a FANTASTIC Senator. He led the Republican Party to VICTORY in 2024. Michael will be a GREAT SENATOR, one of the very best!"

Whatley formerly served as the NC GOP chairman and was the Republican National Committee chairman during the 2024 presidential campaign.

The race could prove critical in the battle for the Senate as Republicans increasingly struggle to maintain leads in competitive races.
