President Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to prevent Democrats from hamstringing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), asserting that they sought to do so to secure the votes of illegal aliens.

"Democrats are desperate to keep illegals, no matter how bad or dangerous they me be, in the Country. They want them to VOTE! That’s why they are fighting so hard to neutralize ICE. We will fight them all the way, and WIN!" he posted on Truth Social.

Trump's comments come amid an ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has seen Trump deploy ICE agents to aid TSA at national airports.

Democrats are seeking concessions on deportations. Republicans have already agreed to some demands, including the use of body cameras during enforcement operations.

Trump's comments also come as the GOP struggles to advance the SAVE America Act past the Democratic filibuster, which has led some lawmakers to mull reform to the rules.
