British police are engaged in a nationwide manhunt for a "white male" as part of a murder investigation into the death of the late ex-MP Ann Widdecomb.

Widdecomb was found dead at the age of 78 on Friday. She served in Parliament as a member of the Conservatives and later became a spokeswoman for Reform UK. Widdecomb was found to have suffered significant injuries at the time of her death and police quickly began a murder investigation.

“Our murder enquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace,” authorities said, according to CNN. “We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible who we believe to be a white male.”

Authorities have neither identified a suspect, nor a motive.

Widdecomb is mourned by many in the British political right, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

"I am sad to hear about the loss of Ann Widdecombe, a heroic Brexiteer and a great speaker who could move Tory audiences to such ecstasy that she was a very hard act to follow," he posted on X.
