Spanish police recover more than 1.5 tons of illegally trafficked eels

In a press release published Thursday, the Guardia Civil said 27 people have been detained in Spain and France as part of a multi-national criminal investigation into illegal eel trafficking. Authorities in Spain, France, Belgium, and Poland raided 30 homes and establishments in connection to an illicit eel supply chain. The Guardia Civil reports more than 1.5 tons of live eels were recovered, along with several tons of frozen eels and more than €2 million in assets.
