Chris Cuomo says CNN suspension 'embarrassing'
"It hurts to even say it. It’s embarrassing. But I understand it," said the younger Cuomo
CNN's Chris Cuomo says he is embarrassed after being suspended indefinitely by the network Tuesday following a deepened understanding by his employer about his involvement in the effort by his older brother, former Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, to battle against allegations of sexual harassment.
"It hurts to even say it. Its embarrassing. But I understand it. And I understand why some people feel the way they do about what I did. I’ve apologized in the past, and I mean it," the younger Cuomo said Wednesday on his SiriusXM weekday radio show.
A spokesperson for CNN said the company was "not privy" to details of Chris Cuomo's involvement in the situation with his brother and that his behavior "raise[s] serious questions."
CNN was made aware of Cuomo's involvement in his brother's triage public relations campaign in May but says it was unaware of the extent of his involvement, which was revealed earlier this week when the New York attorney general released documents in connection with the investigation.
On Tuesday, the network said it "appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second," but that "these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew."
Cuomo has repeatedly apologized publicly to his colleagues at CNN for placing them in a compromised position. "It's the last thing I ever wanted to do was compromise any of my colleagues and do anything but help. I know they have a process that they think is important. I respect that process, so I'm not going to talk about this any more than that," said Cuomo on Wednesday.
