New York Post claims now-fired employee posted obscene fake headlines to company Twitter account

The New York Post on Thursday said a series of violent and offensive posts on its Twitter feed were the result of an employee that the company subsequently terminated. 

The Post's Twitter feed earlier in the day had been flooded by a series of what a Post spokesman called "vile and reprehensible content," including a headline calling for the assassination of New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and one suggesting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott intended to start killing illegal immigrants. 

The posts were quickly taken down, with a spokesman indicating that the content was the result of a disgruntled worker. 

“The New York Post’s investigation indicates that the unauthorized conduct was committed by an employee, and the employee has been terminated,” the spokesman told media outlets. 

Among the individuals targeted by the fake abusive headlines was New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, whose re-election campaign response seemed to suggest that the articles were real. 

“The New York Post has long fostered an ugly, toxic conversation on their front pages and social accounts, but these posts are more disgusting and vile than usual,” the campaign said. "While the Post has made its preferences very clear in the New York Governor’s race, there is no room for this violent, sexist rhetoric in our politics. We demand answers.”
