A major newspaper this week was forced to retract an article incorrectly alleging that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas met with each other immediately before the Court's historic repeal of Roe v Wade.

That newspaper, the Independent, originally claimed in a Thursday report that "Florida Governor Ron DeSantis met with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas the day before the Supreme Court announced its ruling that overturned Roe v Wade."

That assertion was evidently based on a misreading of dates, with reporter Eric Garcia apparently failing to recognize the year between when the two public figures met in June of 2021 and when Roe was ultimately repealed in June of 2022.

Following the exposure of the error, Garcia himself took to Twitter to profusely lament the mistake.

"I am legitimately so sorry," he said. "I was not trying to mislead. I am legitimately embarrassed and humiliated. I never wanted to do anything malicious. I am so apologetic. I should have double-checked the dates."
