Over 700,000 social media users in the United States and elsewhere in the world are reportedly joining the Chinese social media app RedNote, with a law banning the similar China-based app TikTok in the America set to go into effect Sunday.

The switch is being reported by Reuters

Both apps are similar in that they are popular for users who like to make short-form videos and connect with others through a variety of content.

The  U.S.Supreme Court is expected to make a decision by Sunday about whether to uphold a federal law that will shutdown TikTok unless its China-based owner ByteDance divests.

U.S. critics argue TikTok, which has 170 million users, poses a national security risk.

Data shows that U.S. downloads of RedNote were up more than 200% this week.
