The Atlantic and Vox Media have announced announced partnerships with OpenAI, marking the latest media companies to enter agreements with the firm as the industry explores the potential benefits of using AI technology.

"We believe that people searching with AI models will be one of the fundamental ways that people navigate the web in the future," The Atlantic CEO Nicholas Thompson said. “We’re delighted to partner with OpenAI, to make The Atlantic’s reporting and stories more discoverable to their millions of users, and to have a voice in shaping how news is surfaced on their platforms.”

The Atlantic is currently developing an experimental site to explore the potential use of AI in journalism and will use OpenAI technology to that effect. Vox, meanwhile, similarly hopes to use the technology to improve user experience and bolster its own journalism.

"This agreement aligns with our goals of leveraging generative AI to innovate for our audiences and customers, protect and grow the value of our work and intellectual property, and boost productivity and discoverability to elevate the talent and creativity of our exceptional journalists and creators," Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff said in a statement, according to The Hill.

The move follows a similar announcement from News Corp last week granting the company the right to display its content, The Hill reported. Last week, moreover, the Washington Post's "Build It" strategy session saw senior officials discuss the prospect of incorporating AI in some capacity to help expand the paper, according to Axios.
