White House Correspondents' Association President Weijia Jiang shared Monday that the Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C., where a shooter opened fire during a WHCA dinner over the weekend, donated the unused food to two local shelters.

Authorities charged 31-year-old Cole Allen with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump. He has also been charged with transporting a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit a felony and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. 

The shooting occurred at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night, during the WHCA's annual dinner.

Jiang said the 2,600 meals that were made for the event were donated to shelters for abused women and children.

"The Hilton donated the ~2,600 dinners that went unserved at WHCD," she said on X. "They freeze-dried the steak and lobster for longer shelf life before giving them to 2 shelters for abused women and children. HUGE thank you to the staff that worked through the night under terrible circumstances."

Allen was charged Monday but has not entered a formal plea. He reportedly wrote a manifesto before the attack that suggested he intended to kill Trump and top officials in his administration who attended the event along with hundreds of journalists.
