White House says Russia using ballistic missiles from North Korea in war on Ukraine

The U.S. intelligence community says Russia is using short-term missiles from North Korea in its war on neighboring Ukraine, citing newly declassified intelligence.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Thursday that Russia using the missile from the rogue nation is a "significant and concerning escalation" in the war effort and the collaboration between the nations. 

He also said the U.S. will impose sanctions against countries making arms deals with Russia, according to Reuters.

The BBC reports that Moscow has denied that collaboration.

While the U.S. has previously accused Russia of collaborating with Pyongyang to get weapons, Thursday was the first time U.S. intelligence shared any details about the missiles. 

Kirby said that Russia violated numerous U.N. Security Council resolutions.

"We will demand that Russia be held accountable for yet again violating its international obligations," he stated.
