Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez heckled by protesters during New York town hall
One protester was escorted out after yelling "American citizens before migrants."
New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was heckled by protesters during a New York town hall on immigration and the debt ceiling crisis.
A man was escorted out of the town hall Friday evening after he began shouting, "American citizens before migrants," while the congresswoman was speaking.
"Where are you on the migrant issue?" the man asked. "You're absent. You're a piece of s***."
The man was booed by other members of the audience as he was escorted out.
As Ocasio-Cortez brought up ending the debt limit in the country, another protester shouted out, "$100 billion for Ukraine that you voted for," according to the Washington Examiner.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday revised the deadline for lawmakers to reach a deal, saying they have until June 5 after previously warning that a default could come at the start of June.
Other protesters in the audience were holding up signs that read, "Stop funding Ukraine," "America First. Vetted legal migrants only" and one that read "AOC STOP LYING."
