The Biden administration is reportedly considering a plan to declare abortion restrictions a public health emergency.

The declaration would make resources to get an abortion more accessible, according to a report from the news outlet Axios.

President Biden and his administration's Department of Health and Human Services have been pushed by Democrat lawmakers and pro-abortion advocates to make such a declaration since the Supreme Court last summer overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion.

"There are discussions on a wide range of measures that we can take to try to protect people's rights," Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra told Axios.

"There are certain criteria that you look for to be able to declare a public health emergency. That's typically done by scientists and those that are professionals in those fields who will tell us whether we are in a state of emergency and based on that, I have the ability to make a declaration."

However, he also said a "full assessment" has already been made on what such a declaration would look like.
