Demolition of Parkland school shooting site set to begin Friday
Families of those lost in the shooting have different views about the demolition with some for it and some against it.
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School building in which Florida students were killed in a mass shooting is expected to start being torn down Friday.
The demolition was supposed to begin earlier this week but it was delayed due to heavy rain, according to CBS News. GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in multiple counties, including Broward County.
Seventeen people were killed in the mass shooting and 17 others were injured. The killer, Nikolas Cruz, pleaded guilty in 2021 and was sentenced to life in prison.

"There are families that have pretty hard feelings about that place and there are other families that feel like us that feel like it's a pretty sad and solemn place that looks like a tomb, a memorial, it's like sacred ground to us. So 17 families, a lot of different emotions," parent Thomas Hoyer, who lost his son, said.
Hoyer said that when the building is torn down, it should be replaced with something to honor the 17 lost lives.
