This is an extension of his sentence as he's already been in prison for a year.

A Russian court on Tuesday ruled to keep Wall Street Journalist reporter Evan Gershkovich in detention until June 30.

Gershkovich detained by Russia's Federal Security Service on espionage charges in March of 2023.

He was accused of "acting on the instructions of the American side" and gathering secrets about the Russian military, according to ABC News

The Wall Street Journal says Gershkovich was wrongly detained for just doing his job as a journalist.

Editor-in-Chief Emma Tucker told ABC News on Tuesday that she believes Gershkovich will eventually be released.

"Evan will be released, but it's complicated to get there," she said. "There are a lot of different people and governments involved. So I think, you know, we just have to be patient, and optimistic."
