White House Correspondents' Dinner to be blockaded by climate change activists
Climate Defiance has engaged in multiple nonviolent protests to bring attention to the climate change cause.
A group of climate change activists plan to blockade the White House Correspondents' Dinner Saturday to protest President Joe Biden's environmental policies.
White House Correspondents Association President Tamara Keith told ABC News that they are aware of the planned blockade and "security precautions are in place."
Activists with the group Climate Defiance have held other protests against President Biden due to his administration's approving of multiple oil and gas related projects.
The group posted a video to Twitter accusing Biden of committing "ecocide," which is defined as "devastation and destruction of the environment to the detriment of life."
Climate Defiance has engaged in multiple nonviolent protests to bring attention to the climate change cause.
"We need consistent, mass-turnout, nonviolent disruption to stop business as usual and compel politicians to act," the website reads. "When we engage in direct action—whether through a strike, a blockade, or a mass occupation—we break through."
Climate Defiance said earlier in the week that Biden has approved permits for fossil fuel leasing on federal lands at a faster rate than former President Donald Trump.
"We can turn this all around. We can create a beautiful world. We can build the future we deserve. It's not too late," the group said.
