Former Democratic Rep. Katie Hill, who resigned last year from her Southern California seat amid a sex scandal, says that she shed more than a few tears after watching her old district recently flip back to GOP control.

Hill left Congress in October 2019 after admitting to having conducted an "inappropriate" relationship with one of her campaign staffers. There were also rumors of her having engaged in sexual liaisons with a congressional aide.

In her final speech to Congress, she said "misogynistic culture" was partly to blame for her resignation from Capitol Hill.

In a special election this month, first-time GOP candidate Mike Garcia won Hill's 25th District seat, the first time the GOP had wrested a congressional slot from Democrats in the state since 1998. Last week, Hill admitted that the Democratic loss affected her personally.

"So yeah it really hurt to have my old seat flip back to Republican-for a ton of people & also for me. In fact, it was pretty  (expletive) devastating," she wrote on Twitter

"I went offline & cried for a few days but, as always, getting ready to stand back up & keep fighting. Hope you are too."

Though he won the seat this month, Garcia will still have to face a challenge for it in November during the standard election season.

On her Twitter feed, Hill alleged that her resignation, and Garcia's win, was part of a GOP conspiracy to oust Democrats from that district.

"Let’s be clear. My ex gave non-consenual nude pics of me to the ppl who wanted this seat- people who were backing Garcia when he was my opponent," she said.

"They gave those pics to the press. I resigned. I take full responsibility for my mistakes, but this Republican win is no coincidence."
