Republicans in both chambers of Congress on Thursday celebrated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as President-elect Donald Trump's new choice to lead the Justice Department (DOJ).

Trump nominated Bondi earlier Thursday, after former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew his name for the nomination in order to stop detracting from the incoming president's agenda. Bondi has 20 years of experience as a prosecutor, and served as Florida's first female attorney general from 2011 to 2019.

Gaetz praised the nomination as a "stellar selection" in a post on X, highlighting his own history with the Florida prosecutor.

"Pam and I worked closely together when she was Florida’s Attorney General and I chaired Criminal Justice in the state house," Gaetz said in the post. "She’s a proven litigator, an inspiring leader and a champion for all Americans. She will bring the needed reforms to DOJ."

Louisiana GOP Rep. Garret Graves touted the move as the "best AG nomination [Donald Trump] has ever made," and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham from South Carolina said picking Bondi was a "grand slam" and "slam dunk."

Alabama GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville lauded Bondi as a "brilliant attorney" and predicted that the Senate would quickly confirm her nomination.

"Pam Bondi is a brilliant attorney with a long career of fighting for the Constitution. She will do a great job restoring JUSTICE at the DOJ," Tuberville posted to X. "I look forward to the Senate QUICKLY confirming her to be our next Attorney General. No time to waste — our future is at stake."
