Centrist Democratic North Carolina Rep. Don Davis on Friday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the party's nominee for president, one day after he joined a resolution that condemned her handling of the border crisis.

Six Democrats joined Republicans in passing a resolution on Thursday "strongly condemning" Harris's performance as the border czar, and failure to secure the United States border. The other lawmakers include Reps. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Yadira Caraveo of Colorado, Jared Golden of Maine, Mary Peltola of Alaska, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington State.

Davis said that he supports Harris because of the high stakes in the upcoming election, and also endorsed his state's governor Roy Cooper as a potential choice for Harris's running mate. Cooper is already on the reported shortlist for the nomination.

“The stakes of this presidential election are incredibly high, with far-reaching implications,” Davis said in a statement. “At the same time, the administration and Congress must address the concerns of the southern border.

"These issues cannot be overlooked. I will continue to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, including securing the border and other issues impacting eastern NC families," he added.

Davis has now joined the majority of Democratic lawmakers who have endorsed Harris as the party's next nominee after President Joe Biden dropped from the race. Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee on Monday night, after the party's delegates rallied around her. But she is not yet the party's official nominee.
