Dr. Anthony Fauci was enjoying all the press attention he received when the COVID pandemic was spreading in March 2020, according to what Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is calling Fauci's diary. 

"Press is going wild with me," Fauci wrote.

The remark is included in Fauci's private reflections that Paul made public this past weekend when he released 1,141 pages of Fauci’s daily typewritten notes. The notes are part of Paul's investigation into whether the virus might have leaked from a laboratory and whether, as the senator claims, Fauci lied to Congress about it, according to The New York Times. 

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under the Trump administration, also remarked on how the press sided with him over President Donald Trump. 

In January 2020, Trump walked into a meeting about coronavirus, intent on making sure that Fauci was on board with the president's response plans. "We're counting on you," Trump purportedly said, according to the diary. 

When Biden was sworn in a year later, Fauci, who served as Biden's chief pandemic adviser, was calling Trump "a very dangerous man!!" 

Fauci is scheduled to testify on Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, of which Paul is the chairman.
