Gallup poll: Romney approval higher among Democrats than Republicans
Utah senator voted to convict Trump on one of two counts during president's impeachment trial
GOP Sen. Mitt Romney appears more well-liked among Democrats than fellow Republicans, according to a new Gallup poll.
The Utah senator and 2012 Republican presidential nominee’s favorability rating among Democrats is 56 percent, compared to 23 percent among Republicans.
Such numbers are not surprising, considering Romney’s lack of support for GOP President Trump.
While Romney has voted for Trump-backed policies roughly 80 percent of the time, he voted last month to remove the president from office during the Senate impeachment trial.
Romney's overall favorability among U.S. adults stayed consistent at 39%, according to the poll, released Tuesday.
Romney’s favorability among Democrats could be short-lived, considering he recently signaled that he would vote in favor of subpoenaing witnesses in the Senate investigation of Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential primary front-runner Joe Biden.
The vote, initially scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed out of an abundance of caution pertaining to the coronavirus.
